INSOMNIUM Unleashes ‘Songs of the Dusk’ and Announces European Tour Dates: A Journey into the Abyss of Melancholic Metal

Finnish melancholic metal maestros, INSOMNIUM, have once again wielded music as a formidable weapon to break down the walls we’ve built around us. Their ninth magnum opus, “Anno 1696,” which debuted in early 2023, delved deep into the dark and turbulent annals of Northern Europe’s past. It was a journey into an era marked by witches, superstitions, bloodlust, and frenzy, and where werewolves roamed. Now, in November, INSOMNIUM continues this epic saga with their addendum-like EP, “Songs of the Dusk,” a collection of 22 minutes of mesmerizing music that extends the narrative. As Niilo Sevänen (bass, vocals) explains, “We simply had eleven great songs, and we thought that this material is too good to be ‘just’ bonus tracks. They are part of the big story, so you can think of them as the director’s cut material that tells a little extra. For those who want to have more.”

Meticulously mixed by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Orgone Studios) and masterfully mastered by Tony Lindgren (Fascination Street Studios), “Anno 1696” and its counterpart “Songs of the Dusk” stand as the zenith of INSOMNIUM’s emotionally stirring and soaring achievements.

Initially a part of the Ltd. Deluxe 2CD Artbook of “Anno 1696,” “Songs of the Dusk” is now available separately in various formats, including Ltd. CD Digipak, LP with etching on side B, and as a Digital EP. Vinyl enthusiasts can choose between black LP (available at all outlets), Ltd. white LP (300x) from cmdistro.de & various other retailers, Ltd. transparent light blue LP (300x) from the European bandshop, and Ltd. transparent red LP (300x) from the North American bandshop, also available on tour.

Today marks the release of the title track, “Song of the Dusk,” available on all digital platforms. To complement this epic almost 10-minute saga, INSOMNIUM treats fans to a majestic video crafted by Riivata, which can be viewed here: [Insert Video Link]

The band comments: “As the album would have been too long, we left these three tracks out on the initial version, yet they are part of the ‘Anno 1696’ story and complement it, filling in some of the gaps. ‘Song Of The Dusk’ offers an alternative ending, so people can decide which kind of mood they prefer. This version is a bit more hopeful and less tragic, at least on a general Insomnium scale – everyone is dead… except the wolves.”

Excitement is building for November when Finnish melodeath masters INSOMNIUM will take their new songs live on an extensive European headlining tour. This follows an exclusive show in Istanbul on September 8th and their debut live appearance in Tel Aviv on September 9th.
