RnB: We would like to know more about the band. How did you met?
We met in the lively Nijmegen music scene. We liked the same kind of music. Simon and Mike used to play in several blues bands before BBR (The Doubleshots and The Jetsams). After Jaap joined we became Black Bottle Riot. Mark was always a close friend, and the first one we contacted after our ex-drummer Pieter quit the band.
RnB: How long has this band been together?
BBR started 9 years ago, so we’re going to have a big party next year!
RnB: Could you name three bands that really have influenced you?
Black Sabbath, The Black Crowes, The Hellacopters, ACDC, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and many many others.
RnB: What are the plans for the future?
Let you guys hear our brand-new songs when we are in Spain, and after that we’ll finish the songs for our fourth album. We will record that album in February. Afterwards, we’re really looking forward to playing festivals and club shows.
RnB: Is Holland a good place for Rock and Roll?
There are a couple of cool bands, yes. I guess you know most of them, (Black-Bone, Death Alley, De Staat, Nazarene, The Fuel), DeWolff) but there are some newcomers that are awesome too: The Liquid Machine, The Naked Sweat Drips, Raw Flowers.
RnB: We know that you wrote your second LP totally isolated. At the top of the rocky cliffs of Normandy, France, alone in a farm, what can you tell us about that?
It wasn’t a farm, it was actually an old mansion on a cliff in the Atlantic Ocean. We stayed there for almost a week to write new songs, and finish some ideas. That became Soul In Exile. We were alone, with just the band, no crew. Some guitars, a laptop and some drinks. We love cooking too, so we made some nice dishes. And went to the empty fisherman’s village’s pub. There was nobody but us. That was very cool. It was a great way to focus on the band and the music.
RnB: How many beers did you spent during that recording process?
Well, French beer is not so good (as you might know). So, we didn’t drink too much beer, but we switched to whiskey, calvados and wine.
RnB: How would you describe this album?
There are a couple of my favorite tracks on that album. I love the songs Soul in Exile, Trying Too Hard, Backseat Boogie and Away From The Shore. It’s a cool mixture between intense and a sad songs and uplifting party tracks. That might sound as a difficult combination, but I think it’s a great album altogether.
RnB: You will have a large Spanish tour with a lot of dates. Is this your second time in Spain?
This is the second time with BBR. It’s my fourth tour in Spain. I played here with my previous band Black Cloud Halo and I-reject too.
RnB: Do you feel good playing in Spain? Absolutely, it’s a beautiful country with lovely people, delicious food and great drinks. The people are very open and like to have a good night out. I try to come to Spain at least once a year. For touring or for vacation.
RnB: What would you say to Spanish fans to go see Black Bottle Riot live?
When you’re ready for a long night of rock n roll and blues rock… come out to party with us!
RnB: Is there any big festival in your plans?
Nothing on the radar as far as we know. But we’d love to come over to Spain to play some summer festivals!
We are almost finishing, so now it´s time for our most personal questions. We always ask these questions but Don’t worry, this is not about relationships:
RnB: What was the first concert you attended to, as an audience?
The first real band I saw as far as I can remember was Dutch metal band Gorefest back in 1994 I guess.
RnB: What was the first record you bought?
Brother In Arms – Dire Straits
RnB: Did someone close coax you into loving rock and roll.
That was my dad I guess, and the louder, more aggressive music came from my school friends.
That´s all. Thank you, very, much and good luck. See you in next shows!
